WSU Local 1066 members spring into action

Local 1066 at Washington State University in Pullman has a new slate of officers elected last night (Dec. 6) as the local joins the common-sense effort to not balance WSU’s budget on the backs of students, workers and vital programs.

Local 1066’s new officers: President Michelle Edenso; Vice President Victor Edenso; Secretary Eric Needham; Treasurer Deb Haupt; Executive Board - Derek Jones, Nate Smith; and Trustees John Baldwin, Brad Wilson.

Local 1066 includes WSU workers often not seen but who make the university a great place for students to learn.

The local has also joined with more than 880 current and former students, classified staff and professors in signing a petition calling for administrative salary cuts to fill a $10 million deficit each year for the next three years ($30 million total).

Together, those cuts to the pay of high-paid WSU administrators would generate more than half the amount to cover the deficit -- $15 million over three years.

The WSU coalition also calls for cuts to other administrative overhead such as administrative travel and entertainment funds.

This while the local continues its official challenge of detrimental and unilateral changes to parking that mean higher parking costs and jeopardized safety. A hearing on the local’s unfair labor practice complaint is scheduled for Jan. 31.
