Our census is our power. Make sure that you—and your friends and family in Washington state—participate!
(Sept. 16, 2020) — Today, the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO is teaming up with Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County and We Count Washington campaign partners across the state for a Day of Action to ensure everyone who calls Washington state home is counted in the 2020 Census. Thousands of union members around the state are receiving the following reminder about the importance of participating in the census:
With just a few weeks left, and many more people still left to be counted across Washington, we are asking YOU to complete the census.
Together, we are here to say: we demand to be counted. It is our right, and how we make sure our communities and workers get the resources we need for things like transit, education, roads, farms, and health care.
Right now, there are efforts in motion to ensure Black and Indigenous People, Communities of Color, and Immigrant Communities are not counted. Being counted in the census is not just our right, it’s our opportunity to show our power.
If we’re NOT counted, the investments our communities and families need to survive and thrive will disappear.
Let us never forget — our census is our power. You can complete your census online at 2020Census.gov, or by phone at 1-844-330-2020, or if an official census worker visits your home.

As labor legend Dolores Huerta reminds us, there is no citizenship question in the 2020 Census and your answers are confidential. (She’s showing the census form that was mailed to households earlier this year, but that form is not necessary to be counted! it’s just as simple — and safe — to participate via phone or online.)
