The latest and long fight over parking at Washington State University in Pullman ended Wednesday (May 23) with a settlement bringing $7,500 for the Local 1066 membership and parking cost concessions from the administration.

This settled the union’s unfair labor practice complaint. Local leadership, WFSE/AFSCME staff experts and our attorney crafted the settlement just before the hearing was to start.
Under the settlement:
• WSU will pay the union a lump-sum payment of $7,500.
• The new Cattle Feeding Lab parking lot (near the McCluskey Shops) will be designated a “blue lot” – the least expensive zone – for two years (the 2018-19 and 2019-20 parking permit cycles).
• WSU will provide cross-numerical parking permits within the same color zone, for Dining Services employees who regularly are assigned to work in other locations. This will stay in place through the 2018-19 parking permit year.
• And the administration will place concerns regarding lighting, call boxes and walkways on the President’s Health and Safety Committee for good-faith consideration. The east end of Ferdinand Lane’s sidewalk will be placed on WSU’s sidewalk renewal list.
“I would like to thank the hard work and perseverance of our WSU members and leaders,” said Herb Harris, WFSE/AFSCME’s coordinator of PERC (Public Employment Relations Commission) activities, who signed the settlement along with Local 1066 President Michelle Edenso and union attorney Ed Younglove.
“They worked hard at two mediation sessions, were willing to testify and at the 11th hour came together and helped us get this settlement.”
