Legislative Victories

One of the best legislative sessions in years thanks to WFSE/AFSCME members’ committed actions

The 2018 legislative session ended March 8 with a supplemental budget that cares about the people of the state and the quality services we provide.

AFSCME Council 28 (WFSE) members’ grassroots and on-the-scene activism won major legislation, including some like the PSERS expansion bill that had been stalled most of this decade by the former Senate majority. AFSCME Council 28 (WFSE) members who stood up and worked to change that majority in last fall’s elections should be proud of that hard work. The new Senate majority definitely made a big difference this time out.

Here's information you can share about four of our victories:

CRITICAL INCIDENT SUPPORT

Day in and Day Out, we answer the call of duty— we DESERVE the proper Critical Incident Support! NOW WE HAVE IT! OUR EFFORTS WITH OUR UNION WORKED!

REPEALED CONTRACTING OUT OF CHILD WELFARE SERVICES

We finally put the ill-conceived idea of contracting out case management to rest. For over 8 years, we’ve been successfully battling the contracting out of your public service. Members standing together to put child safety over profits. The right answer is higher pay & retaining a quality workforce.

SHARED LEAVE EXPANSION

Family Friendly win from bargaining to the legislature! Your activism at bargaining, electing a pro-labor Senate, and lobbying efforts have made the difference. Family friendly workplaces help recruit & retain staff.

PSERS EXPANSION

For over 12 years we have struggled to right the injustice of institutions members not being included in the Public Safety Employees Retirement System (PSERS). We finally achieved a victory after educating legislators at events, in Olympia, and on the phone for years. The difference maker was fixing the Senate with our activism and showing the power of the union!
