Statement from WFSE's Executive Committee:
Four WFSE members have been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over the last week. We DEMAND the immediate release of these members and any one else detained under these illegal pretenses.
We demand a fair due process system for EVERYONE involved with the American immigration system. Be assured, we are working with any/all available resources to assist our members and their families through these times.
All four of our members are here with legal work visas or legal asylum claims. All four of these people also work in much needed, difficult jobs taking care of the sick or disabled. They are active community members and family members and our communities are BETTER with all of them in it.
What is happening is illegal, unethical, and immoral. But instead of these people being out here doing these critical jobs, they’re locked away and denied proper medical care or access to their attorneys and moved from state to state in the dead of the night.
To all of our members, especially those who were not born in the United States and may be feeling incredibly anxious or afraid right now, you are all union siblings and I promise that we will fight for you, we will support you, we will do everything we can to protect you.
An injury to one is an injury to all. Solidarity forever.
