What We’re Looking For:

The Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is recruiting to fill a Printshop Assistant position located in Olympia, WA. The Print Shop Assistant supports the print shop for WFSE and is responsible for utilizing technology and various printing machines to create newsletters, postcards, flyers, and collective bargaining agreements.

This position utilizes bulk mail and addresses for various documents by extracting data and lists from bulk mail and Excel files to accomplish these tasks. Ensures that the daily mail, including first class, is picked up and delivered. Processes UPS shipments as well as orders office paper, envelopes, supplies, custodial & cleaning supplies, and USPS trays for WFSE Headquarters.

Additional duties include:

  • Orders paper, envelopes, and letterhead for the WFSE’s various departments.
  •  In absence of the Senior Printer, will call, schedule, and facilitate equipment supplies, repairs and services.
  •  In absence of the Senior Printer, will manage business and bulk mail accounts and postage meter accounts.
  •  Make/print/glue notepads for WFSE staff, Convention, and training conferences.
  •  Produces newsletters and meeting notices for the Retired Public Employees Council
  •  Servicing and troubleshooting the print machines.
  • Supports the Senior Printer in online ordering of mailing supplies.
  • Conducts annual and bi-annual projects such as: Legislative and Political Action Toolkits; Bright and Sunrise Dental mailings.
  • Mailing calendars to staff and members; and Contract mailings.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift and handle up to 70 pounds.
  • Must be able and comfortable operating various high-speed equipment.
  • Ability to commit to a set or adjusted schedule of 20 hours a week.
  • Has knowledge and some experience with fundamental office practices, procedures, and methods.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Possess a background in operating standard office equipment and using required printing equipment, associated computer systems, and software applications, or has the ability to learn. These software applications include but are not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Asana, Slack, and the union’s membership database.

Special Note:

As a condition of employment, candidates who accept a position will be required to provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19. Additionally, it is expected that selected candidates live within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned work location. This position is overtime eligible and may be required to work some weekends. Some travel may be required.  Benefits include annual and sick leave, medical/dental, life, and long-term disability insurance, 12 paid holidays and more. Salary range is between $20.41 to $21.02 per hour and will be determined commensurate with experience.
