Bargaining Session 2: Employee Rights, Leave and Community Engagement

Yesterday, your Community College Coalition bargaining team met for the second time with management to win a fair 2027-29 union contract.
We spent time discussing making FMLA/PFML resources available to our members so that they can access important leave to take of themselves and their families.
We also introduced an Employee Rights article that your bargaining team has worked on extensively. Among other goals, it seeks to clarify when our members have the right to union representation at the workplace.
We are Washington’s community colleges

This winter, members from the 12 schools in our Community College Coalition elected chose from every school to serve on our bargaining team.
That broad perspective is paying off.
“We have program managers, program specialists, ventilation technicians, custodians,” said bargaining team member J Mott, who works at Centralia College, and did this session’s video update.
“One person has some little idea and we expand on that to come up with this amazing Employee Rights article that we’re working on.”
Actions for a fair union contract

To win a fair contract, we’re relying on thousands of members like you to get loud, get your coworkers involved, and share why your work deserves the respect that only comes with fair pay and working conditions.
Find all the actions you can take on the Community College Coalition landing page.

- Bargaining Survey Due June 30
If you’re a dues-paying WFSE member, make sure to fill out the Bargaining Survey by June 30th!
If you’re not a member, you can join here.
- Community Events Statewide May 30
See if there’s a community engagement event happening at your community college on May 30th. Find the map of events and how to create your own event here.
We want at least one event near every one of our schools to show the folks on the other side of the negotiating table that our communities are behind us—the workers who keep our schools running.

What’s next?

Our next negotiations date is May 18th! Make sure to wear green to work and use the Teams background every bargaining day.
