WWU CLASSIFIED BARGAINING UNITS (BUA, BUB & BUE)

Negotiations concluded on September 18, 2020 for the 2021-2023 Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The AFSCME/WFSE “The Western Washington University” classified staff tentative agreement for the 2021-2023 contract achieves several major goals identified by the bargaining unit as priority items:

  • The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) ensures no wage reductions as a result from COVID-19 and the current financial state of WWU, and your Periodic (aka: Step) increases will continue for 2021 and 2022 – See Article 43; added protected classes - See Article 2; Updated WWU policy to include staff’s ability to work remotely during suspended operations (not to exceed 15 calendar days); - See Article 17; Plus, there were notable improvements to other non-economic articles.
  • Maintained healthcare costs, including the premium cost share of 85/15 split

Because of these achievements, your Western Washington University Bargaining Team recommends that you ACCEPT this Agreement.

WWU LAW ENFORCEMENT UNITS

This was a unique year for bargaining due to unprecedented economic and social challenges. To secure protections for members, we reached an agreement with management to extend to the contract through 21-23. I am pleased to report that we have successfully reached a tentative agreement that held the line against increased healthcare premium contributions.

You will notice that campus police now have their own collective bargaining agreement. Following the passage of legislation last year granting campus officers interest arbitration, the Washington State Public Employment Relations Commission ruled that campus police were in a bargaining unit separate from other higher education employees.

We recommend that you ratify this agreement to extend the contract through 2021-2023 and protect periodic/step increases and to hold the line on healthcare costs.

The WWU Law Enforcement Unit tentative agreement and the health care article are here for your review.  If you have any questions, please contact the MCC at [email protected] or call 1-833-622-9373.

In solidarity,
Ton Johnson
