First bargaining session: We know who really does the work.

Today, your elected Community College Coalition (CCC) team attended our first bargaining session for the 2027-29 contract.
We’re facing a dim economic forecast in Washington, but we’re here to fight alongside you and we’re not leaving anything on the table that could improve your work and lives.
Please share your top priorities by filling out this bargaining survey.
Management may enjoy taking the credit for the stellar education and community resources available at our colleges, but we know who really makes it happen: our members.
Our team introduced ourselves today and shared what we do, from fixing roofs to helping students who are facing homelessness find resources. Every one of you brings dedication, skill, and life experience to our colleges.
Our proposals for respect & fairness
Next we presented our priorities and initial proposals to management—proposals that ensure workers are treated as professionals, recognized for their contributions, and able to participate fully in their union.
Many CCC employees cannot afford to live where they work. We all know that being in public service is not something we do to get rich. We do it because we care.
But while Washington continues to draw people from across the country with its reputation of excellent, affordable education, those of us who make that education possible are not being fairly compensated.
Management’s priorities must align with a future where our community colleges offer better lives for students AND for workers.
What’s next?
Our next bargaining session is May 4th.
We don’t expect to have the chance to look at proposals with economic impact, like pay raises, until late June, because management will not discuss these until the budget forecast comes out.
In the meantime, we will be fighting hard for every non-economic proposal that can measurably improve things for our members simply by asking management to do the right thing.
What can you do?
When negotiations slowed and stalled during our last round of negotiations, it was your voices that pushed management to return to the table with better offers. We have to show up in full force if we want to make that happen again.
Here’s what you can do to help make sure we build the strongest possible contract:
