"Committees are power. Committees make things happen. Committees are the lifeblood of our democratic system." - Leslie Knope
ARTICLE 1. NAME AND PURPOSE
Section 1. The name of this Committee shall be the DCYF Policy Committee. Its purpose shall be to coordinate the activities of all members of the DCYF Policy Committee in their efforts to improve the wages and conditions of their employment by the State of Washington.
The membership of the DCYF Policy Committee includes all WFSE members who work at DCYF's Field Operations and Licensing Divisions. We address issues relevant to our members, ranging from advocating for paying our support staff a livable wage to calling for the head of our agency to be removed.
Our agendas and topics of focus are largely determined by members and by locals, through methods such as proposing resolutions, submitting bargaining proposals, suggesting UMCC topics, creating petitions, and a variety of other means. We work to make goals set by our members into actionable tasks. This means planning actions such as Green Shirt Days and Unity Breaks, creating petitions and campaigns for change, and otherwise coordinating members across the state to accomplish our goals.
All members are welcome to attend our meetings (both virtual and in-person), although only delegates (and sometimes alternates) are able to vote. Meetings are conducted in line with our Bylaws and with Robert's Rules of Order (Revised Edition). If you're interested in getting involved in policy committee, see our Get Involved! page for more information.

Officers
There are currently four officer positions on the DCYF Policy Committee: Chair, Eastern Washington Vice Chair, Western Washington Vice Chair, and Secretary. Nominations and elections occur at the regular meeting held within 60 days after adjournment of the WFSE Biennial Convention. This means that a term has a maximum length of two years. See the Policy Committee Bylaws or talk with an officer for more information.
