Our Rights at Work

Are you unfamiliar with your rights at work?  Do you end up with a Swiss cheese schedule each week to avoid overtime, and you're not sure if that's supposed to happen?  Is your boss stealing your lunch money - or your lunch break?  Have you been personally victimized by DCYF leadership?

This page is for you.  We address some of the common questions about rights in your workplace, and about how things such as overtime, vacation leave, trainings, and workload are supposed to work - so that you have a better idea of when to get help or take action if there's a potential issue.

Articles will be added over time.  Make sure to check the date an article was published first; if it was written based on an old CBA, it may or may not still be accurate.  If there's something missing you'd like to see added, or if something is incorrect, please contact us and let us know.

The information collected here may give you an idea if something's wrong, but you shouldn't rely on it for any decision-making or actions.  Always talk with a steward or your council rep first.  As we well know, sometimes what's written doesn't always line up perfectly with actual practice.

This information is also specific to the WFSE DCYF Policy Committee, so if you aren't a Child Welfare or Licensing Division worker, it may not apply or be accurate.
