Reef Landrum moved to Washington State from Florida in late 2022, when she was hired as a Social Worker for the Child and Family Welfare Services (CFWS) Adolescent Unit in Seattle's King West office. Prior to moving, Reef was completing a dual Master's of Social Work and Master's of Public Administration program at Florida State University. She was a graduate assistant with PeaceJam Southeast, where she trained college students to serve as mentors and coaches to children and youth, and prepared programming on leadership development and social change for coaching sites and conferences.
Reef began her union involvement as a Department Representative at FSU with Graduate Assistants United. Her role at the time was limited, and the GAU had limited power due to a smaller membership, but she worked to spread knowledge of the union, its benefits, and the rights of workers, where she could. On starting at DCYF, Reef joined WFSE right away and became active with her area's Member Action Team and with WFSE Local 889. Reef joined the DCYF Policy Committee as a delegate in September 2023, and was elected as the Western Washington Vice Chair in June 2024. She has also been involved with regional and statewide UMCCs.
One of Reef's biggest passions is around education, she enjoys being able to teach others new concepts and ideas, and she loves when she learns something new herself in the process. She hopes to bring her enthusiasm and experience to her role as Western Washington Vice Chair by reducing the barriers for members to participate in union activities and actions, by making information about the union more accessible to everyone, and by being an advocate for members who want change - but aren't sure where to start. She hopes that this website will be a first step for this.
In her free time, Reef loves stories: reading them, writing them, playing D&D in them - she also enjoys hanging out in coffee shops and getting out in nature. After living most of her life in Florida, Reef is still enraptured by a place where snowcapped mountains rise out of the water each day that she drives into the office. She lives with her formerly feral cat, Catra, in Seattle.
