Political Power Equals a Voice

2020 was a dark year for freelance interpreters like us.

With the resources and political power of Interpreters United, we can make 2021 a brighter, more prosperous new year for our profession and for L&I Interpreters.

Political Power = a Voice

Interpreters United (WFSE) has the strongest lobbying program in Washington State. 600+ WFSE members travel to Olympia every year to speak directly to lawmakers.

That means your voice will be heard.

As a member of Interpreters United (WFSE), you will have the chance to educate legislators about the critical issues facing interpreters.

Ending Offshoring

Right now, we are using our political power to put pressure on the Governor’s office to address the issue of offshoring.

With unemployed interpreters in the state looking for work, there’s no reason agencies should be sending interpreting work out of the country. This has to stop.

We Win for Interpreters

With our political power, we have won the right for Medicaid and social services interpreters to bargain healthcare benefits and for all freelance interpreters to organize and form a union.

Our political power has doubled the wages of represented interpreters over 10 years and won important protections, such as 1-hour pay minimums and up to 75% reimbursement for late cancellations and no shows.
