Mandates Without Means Cost Lives - DCYF Campaign
Join our empty chair social media action. Post on social media or send us a photo of an empty chair and a short story/mention of something you've done at work recently, or that you're proud of. You can also send us your to-do list for the day. It should not contain any confidential or identifying information for clients or providers (double-check your photos as well). Our goal is to show the governor, our representatives, and regular Washingtonians the impact that unfunded mandates have had and will continue to have on us and the families we serve.
If you're posting it yourself, use hashtags EmptyChairsWA, safestaffingsaveslives, and WashingtonForAll and add a line such as "Could an empty chair do that?". You can tag Governor Bob Ferguson, Washington Senate Democrats, Washington House Democrats, and your representatives as well if you like! See an example here, although yours can be just a story, a few tags, and an empty chair photo.
If you're sending it to us, let us know if you want the post to be anonymous or not!
Join rallies and other actions in Olympia or near you on 2/10! Check our calendar for details!
Write a letter to the editor about progressive revenue or the imminent physical harm standard. Find templates here.
Sign the petition to tax the rich and fund state services!
Contact your elected officials to share your stories and ask them to fight for state employees and services!
- Use the district finder to locate your legislative district and contact information for your representatives.
- Find letter templates from the previous session here, just send them to your representatives and the governor, rather than the list mentioned on that page.

Lobby Days - DCYF/Statewide Action
Are you tired of seeing our coworkers leaving because of burnout, assaults, or poor working conditions? Is your workload unmanageable or pressuring you to work off the clock? Are you fed up with filling out a mountain of paperwork to provide our clients the most basic supports? Are you angry at the disservice our state is doing to children and families? Join us as we tell our legislators all about it!
Governor Ferguson is - yet again - proposing an all-cuts budget. Rather than taxing the billionaires, he hopes to take away the state services that support regular people, including us and our clients. Sign up to attend a lobby day to share your story, speak with your representatives, and create the change we desperately need.
Read more and learn about the upcoming session here.
How you can take action
Sign up for the lobby day for your district! Keep an eye on your email, our website, and our Facebook page for bills to speak for or against and other important information. You can leave a comment on the Facebook event in the WFSE DCYF group if you have questions or would like to carpool.
