What We’re Looking For:

The Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is recruiting to fill a vacancy in our Computer Desktop   Support position located at our Headquarters building in Olympia, WA. This position reports to the IT Manager and provides desktop support services and contributes to the WFSE mission by providing information technology resources across all areas of the organization. The Desktop Support position performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and technical support for all WFSE users. This position uses established industry standard and innovative approaches to complete daily assignments and coordination of long term projects. This position is the first point of contact for staff with any issue regarding the WFSE network as a whole. They dialog with the user, triage issues, open tickets, and follow routine procedures to resolve issues. 

Additional duties include:

  • The creation of new users and implement requested changes/updates to existing users. This involves, but is not limited to utilizing the following technology to achieve success: Active Directory, Cloud based email, ShoreTel phone system, Sharp printer scanning, LaborPower Database, IOS/Android email sync, and customization of the laptop/desktop systems.
  • Maintaining the VoIP phone system, including setting up new users, new phones, replacement phones, user changes, and resetting phones.
  • Maintaining backups, including tape swaps, off-site rotation and log verification.
  • Maintenance and equipment refresh on all things desktop related – desktop computers, laptop computers, docking stations, duel monitors, tablets, smart phones, printers, scanners, phones, label makers, headsets, speakers, etc.  
  • Physical relocation of staff equipment to new locations.
  • Follows standard procedures to document help desk requests and resolutions. Write tickets and knowledge base articles on issues and posts them into the HelpDesk system.
  • Provide initial user orientation on these discussed areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains accurate and current asset information in the inventory database.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of applicable technical experience working with information technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work well with others and function as a team member.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks and accommodate numerous interruptions.
  • Advanced knowledge of current computer platforms (PC & MAC, Desktop & Laptop), mobile devices (IOS & Android), printers and remote access techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of software applications, specifically the MS Office suite: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Basic IP troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic Active Directory skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a help desk technician or other customer support role.
  • Experience with any of the following programs: SpiceWorks, SharpDesk, Shoretel Director, SEP backup, Veeam, VmWare, McAfee EPO, Symantec Spam filter, AreoAdmin, Acrobat Pro and custom data bases.
  • Experience with any of the following platforms:  Windows 7 & 10 Desktop, Windows 2012 Server, Windows Terminal Server, Linux, Dell, HP, Cisco, Sonicwall, Barracuda,  Shoretel
  • Experience with any of the following technologies: VPN, SMPT, SFTP, WAN, SAN, VmWare Cluster,  Voip, WiFi,
  • Interest and desire to stay current with the IT technologies used by WFSE and available in the industry.

Special Note:

This position is overtime eligible and may be required to work some weekends.  Travel is normally limited to the assigned area of responsibility.  Benefits include annual and sick leave, cell phone allowance, medical/dental, life, and long term disability insurance, and paid holidays. Salary range is $49,589 to $57,853 and will be determined commensurate with experience.
