Negotiation of the 2018-2021 Tentative Agreement (TA) between the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) and the Renton Technical College (RTC) concluded on June 13 2018.

After you have reviewed the information included below, we believe you will agree that good progress was made and hope you will exercise your right to vote to ratify this Tentative Agreement (TA)

Your RTC Bargaining Team recommends A VOTE TO ACCEPT this Tentative Agreement (TA) and strongly encourages your participation in the ratification process.

Voting Assistance Centers (VACs) provide you a time and place to ask questions about the agreement and an opportunity to place your vote online if you’re unable to do so at home.

Summary of Tentative Agreement

 Renton Technical College 2018-2021 CBA

This is a summary that highlights and explains the most significant provisions of the Tentative Agreement (TA) reached between the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) bargaining unit and Renton Technical College (RTC) on June 18, 2018. It does not cover every article or every provision. 

MAJOR GOALS

Major goals achieved in tough economic times include:

  • 3.5% Wage Increase starting July 2018
  • Increased Vacation Leave 
  • Increased Degree Stipends
  • Training/Education Stipend lump Sum Payouts 
  •  Guaranteed Reopener in 2019

HIGHLIGHTS

of the non-economic gains in 2018-2021 articles

Article 6 – Union-Management Communications Committee

  • No Changes, but agreement to hold a joint training for both members and management on the new contract. 

Article 10 – Vacations

  • Increased vacation leave accruals
  • Allows for employees to choose alternative dates if vacation request is denied

Article 11 – Improved Sick Leave Language

  • Added language for pregnancy disability
  • Added protectin for domestic violence victims
  • Members will be allowed to retain eight (8) hours of sick leave when eligible for shared leave

Article 19- Discipline

  • This article now provides clear processes and protections for members, to include written notices and the right to having a representative in possible discipline meetings. 
  • Members are now entitled to notice in the event of demotion or discharge.
  • Management cannot discipline without Just Cause

Article 23 –Professional Development

  • Members will be notified when they have a due date for mandatory training

Article 24 –Dues

  • This article will be renegotiated in accordance with the recent Supreme Court decision regarding dues and fees

Article 26 –Salaries and Employee Compensation

  • Increased Stipends for degrees
  • Full single 500 payout for certificate stipends 

Guaranteed Reopener in 2019

  • Agreement to use contract reopener 
  • Guaranteed reopener in 2019
