Latest Children’s Lobby Day brings Spokane members’ message to their legislators; make plans now for Presidents' Day Lobby Day
A group of Spokane Local 1221 members from DSHS Children’s Administration were at the Capitol today for the latest CA Lobby Day.
The Local 1221 group met in the morning with their 7th Dist. Sen. Shelly Short and one of their House members, Rep. Jacquelin Maycumber.
They made the case for adequate caseloads and to keep the ball rolling next year on the social worker student loan repayment bill. Both the House and Senate versions of that bill are now dead – they didn’t clear this week’s committee cut-of deadline. But part of Lobby Day activism is to keep those good ideas on legislators’ radar screens. And the Local 1221 members did just that today.
BTW. The next big Lobby Day is on Monday, Feb. 19, Presidents’ Day. That will come just four days after the next state revenue forecast so that’s when supplemental budget action picks up. Sign up now for Presidents’ Day Lobby Day at:

Date-of-birth privacy bill: We need your stories on the safety, security risk
It’s time to tell your stories to move the bill to protect your date of birth from release to the Freedom Foundation and others who intentionally or unintentionally could use that information to harm you and yours. That would unleash safety and security threats on you and your family.
Right now, Senate Bill 6079 to keep your date of birth from public disclosure is awaiting a vote of the full Senate. It has until Feb. 14 to pass the Senate, just six days away. If it passes, then it needs to go through the process all over again in the House.
But legislators need to hear from you about the risks and safety threats you’d face if the Freedom Foundation and others get their way.
Share your safety risk examples with the Federation’s Legislative and Political Action Field Action Coordinator Brandon Anderson at [email protected]. Confidentiality will be honored.
