What We’re Looking For

 We are recruiting to fill a Special Projects Coordinator that will plan, develop, and implement the overall strategy and approach for campaigns to grow our union membership through external organizing. This position is responsible for strategic organizing initiatives as directed by Council leadership. This position will work under the day to day supervision of the Director of Organizing and will be assigned special projects including: first contract campaigns, specialized sectoral organizing research, and assisting in transitioning newly organized groups into Field Services. Assist organizing staff to help achieve goals of organizing campaigns and mentor organizers to build, identify and recruit organizing committee members to lead campaigns.

Additional duties include

  • Coordinate the development of supporting communication and outreach materials.
  • Help identify key external/issue campaigns.
  • Design themes and messages for campaigns and assists organizing staff with implementation of said campaigns.
  • Responsible for conducting research, developing strategies and implementing external organizing campaigns, first contract and other strategic sectoral external organizing campaigns.
  • Mentor staff in best practices to Engage volunteer member organizers to get involved in external organizing drives and contract campaigns.
  • Conduct research to help create organizing strategies and plans to grow the union in strategic targeted sectors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in labor relations or related field; or equivalent education/work experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience working in labor unions, organizing, and issue and contractcampaigns.
  • Experience in implementing strategic organizing campaigns, that result in new organizing victories,strong membership, and strong first contracts.
  • Experience researching and designing winning strategic organizing campaigns.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, especially those historically marginalized, in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of decision-making processes.
  • Working knowledge in MS Office (especially Powerpoint).
  • Experience with new media campaigns and developing strategic communication materials.

Special Note

This position will be located in either Olympia or Seattle based on need and/or preference. This position is overtime exempt and will be required to work some weekends. Travel is normally limited to the assigned area of responsibility. Must have a valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and valid vehicle insurance. Benefits include annual and sick leave, $150 cell phone allowance, medical/dental, life, and long term disability insurance, and holidays. Salary range is $90,988 to $105,330 and will be determined commensurate with experience.
