SEATTLE (Nov. 16, 2017) — Jeff Johnson, President of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, announced today that April Sims, whom you remember for her many years on our staff and as a Local 53 activist, has been appointed to serve as WSLC Political and Strategic Campaign Director. She will replace Teresa Mosqueda, who is leaving the council after nearly seven years following her election to the Seattle City Council.
In a week of sad news comes word of the passing of another WFSE/AFSCME giant. Lois Masten, former WFSE staffer and wife of one-time Executive Director George Masten, passed away peacefully this morning (Nov. 15). The family is comforting George.
Lois was devoted to the members and her family in the many jobs she did at WFSE. In addition, she was a major force in George's vibrant but unsuccessful 1988 run for State House in the 20th District.
Word has reached us from former Exec. Dir. Gary Moore and former Dep. Dir. Mark Brown that Larry Goodman, the WFSE director of personnel boards and later field services from 1967 to 1996, died over the weekend.
