Governor Inslee speaks to Local 443 members regarding Washington State hospital workers

WFSE Local 443 would like to thank Governor Jay Inslee, who took it upon himself to speak with WFSE Local 443 members about the alarming safety issues at Washington State institutions like Western and Eastern State Hospitals.

Thank you Governor, for your  pledge to take action to ensure a safe, assault free workplace for our union siblings. And a very special thank you to your lovely and gracious wife Trudi for allowing you some time to express your commitment to make certain our workers in Washington's instiutions are safe.

In solidarity,

WFSE Local 443, on behalf of our union siblings at Eastern and Western State Hospitals and all of Washington State Institutions

Last year, nearly half a million workers went on strike across the nation, the largest number since 1986, when

A bill that has been introduced in the House of Representatives would simplify the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program for current and would-be participants.

Across the nation, women are creating change for working families more than ever before. The Women’s Leadership Academy is ready to train more AFSCME women to be leaders of that change.

The best spokespeople for anyone running for elected office are everyday Americans spreading the word to their neighbors, co-workers, friends and relatives. That’s why public service workers who are AFSCME members came out this year across the nation to help elect candidates who support working families.

And we won big.

We won at every level of government and in almost every state. AFSCME members made our voices heard, helping our partners in For Our Future knock on 7.5 million doors and hold 925,000 conversations in targeted states.

Better wages. Check. Better working conditions. Check. And, thanks to unions, we now know there is also a union difference for workers who have access to critical benefits like paid parental leave.

According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 17 percent of all U.S. workers have access to paid family leave.

At a time when our country needs real investments in infrastructure, education and public services, congressional leaders are doubling down on tax cuts for the rich.

WFSE members overwhelmingly ratified 2019-2021 contracts today when voting closed at 5pm.

"The hard work of our bargaining teams, and advocacy of our members resulted in historic gains in our 2019-2021 contracts. We are stronger together." — Amy Spiegel, WFSE Director of Negotiations
