How long have you been a union member?

Since the day I was hired, 12/10/2006.

There are many benefits to being a union member, including:

  • Higher wages: Union workers typically earn higher wages than non-union workers, sometimes as much as 20% more.
  • Better benefits: Union members are more likely to have access to employer-provided health insurance, paid sick days, retirement benefits, and guaranteed pensions.
  • Safer workplaces: Unions campaign politically for better health and safety laws and subsequent enforcement of those laws. Unions improve workplace health and safety.
  • Job Stability: Unions create a more stable work environment. Unions level the playing field between management and the front lines.

Best part of being part of a union?

Sense of common purpose. Being part of something greater than myself. Fighting for what is Right, what is Just.

Why do you take an active role in your local?

I am driven to be an advocate. I cannot keep quiet when I see an injustice in life. That is why; to be a force for change, for betterment, for equality.

What is your "why"?

I have always had the heart of an advocate. It is natural for me to fight for the underdog. I survived a trauma-filled childhood and moved past it. Today I am a Thriver. I can hold out my hand and offer it to another. The union supports the Thriver that I am today.

How long have you lived in Washington?

Born here. Left at 19 for 20 years, Missed the four seasons of the Yakima Valley and the beauty of this state.
