Feb 14, 2017
2/14/17 A bill to recognize March 31 as ?Cesar Chavez Day? came before a House committee Tuesday (Feb. 14).
Jimmy Matta of the Latino Civic Alliance said HB 1939 would honor the United Farmworkers leader for his service as a veteran, a business owner and community leader as well as his iconic role in the labor movement.
?I would hope that you pass this bill,? Matta said. ?We can show Americans and the people of Washington state that we care about people working in the fields and we care about making sure that we create change through non-violence and celebrate that.?
HB 1939 came before the House State Government, Elections and IT Committee.
