On Tuesday, August 6th, our WFSE bargaining team held its fifth bargaining session with Eastern Washington University. Our meeting began with a presentation from a representative from the University’s budget office, on the University’s finances. We were able to ask questions and learn more about the process by which EWU funds the many services our members provide the EWU community every day. The main takeaway: declining enrollment numbers have placed the University in a difficult financial situation that we can expect to have an impact on our ongoing bargaining.
Unfortunately, our progress in persuading the University to accept any of the proposals from our team continues to be slow. Management seems intent on a stonewalling approach to bargaining that has been frustrating to witness. But our team remains committed to fighting for a just, fair, and equitable contract for the dedicated workers who make EWU work. With proposals focused on improving quality of life and providing relief to workers navigating ballooning cost of living, we won’t stop advocating for the priorities of you, the members of this union.
But the bargaining team can’t do this alone. Stay tuned for more opportunities to show your support for your bargaining team, and send a message to EWU leadership that we mean it when we say that “a strong contract is Eagle strong!”
In Solidarity,
EWU Bargaining Team
